Day 1: Beautiful Wadis

After an early breakfast, departure to Bimmah sinkhole: a deep pool with a mix of salt and sweet water.  It is created by collapsing limestone rocks, but according to the local legend, it was caused by the impact of a meteorite. Wadi Tiwi and Wadi Shab: put on your hiking shoes to discover these two stunning wadis with lush green vegetation.

Overnight: Camping near Sur, Al Khesah Beach.
Meals: Lunch & dinner.

Day 2: Sur, Wadi Bani Khalid & the sand dunes

Visit the dhow wharf in Sur and enjoy the view over the white coastal city from the nearby Al Ayjah lighthouse. After a beautiful hike in Wadi Bani Khalid, take a swim in the clear waters of the wadi or take a footbath in the pond, where small fish will eat away the dead skin on your feet. We set up camp in the unspoiled sand dunes near Al Hawiyah. Enjoy a beautiful sunset and a great evening and night under a bright sky.

Overnight: Camping in the sand dunes.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 3: Nizwa

Get up early to marvel at and feel the warmth of the first sun rays, rising from behind the dunes. After breakfast, departure to Nizwa, once the capital of Oman. In Manah, near Nizwa, you will visit the Oman Across Ages Museum. The museum tells the story of Oman from prehistoric times to the present day. The construction of the museum is a modern architectural masterpiece, using the most modern technology.  A very interesting visit for all ages. We finish the day with an evening walk around beautifully illuminated Old Nizwa and the Fort.

Overnight: Hotel or guest house.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 4: Bahla, Jabreen and Misfat Al Abriyeen

Today we will discover more of Oman’s rich history and amazing nature. The impressive Bahla Fort is an immense mud brick structure that dominates the surrounding old settlement and palm plantations. Before leaving Bahla, you will visit one of the potteries for which Bahla is famous. Nearby, the 17th century Jabreen Castle stands as a witness of the prosperity and flourishing economy of the area.  It also was the centre of education for studies such as astronomy, medicine, history and law. On the way to the beautiful mountain village of Misfat Al Abriyeen, you will pass by a few beautiful old villages. You will walk through the lush green plantations of Misfat Al Abriyeen and learn about the centuries old falaj irrigation system. The journey continues to Jebel Shams and Oman’s breathtaking canyon. Enjoy the spectacular sunset over the awe inspiring mountains.

Overnight: camping at Jebel Shams
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 5: Jebel Shams Grand Canyon, Bat, Al Ayn, Salut

Often early morning, the rays of the sunlight leave a silvery shine over the dense clouds that fill the canyon, which creates a stark contrast to the surrounding dark cliffs. On the program today are the archaeological sites of Wadi Al Ayn, Bat and Salut.  Both Al Ayn and Bat are necropolis with beehive tombs dating back to the 3rd BC. In Salut you will visit the archaeological site of the settlement and castle, dating back to the bronze and iron age. After lunch in these beautiful surroundings, return to Muscat.

Meals: Breakfast & lunch.
